How did this collection come about?

”When I first started working with Burton, they used to do alot of collabs. So me, TJ and Jesse, the sons of Jam Master Jay started talking, and they know the Burton family since many many years back. They are also great snowboarders. So with this, 50 years of hiphop, Run DMC and New York, it felt like a no brainer to start working on something together.”

How is Burton connected to the music/hiphop scene?

”I think it has to to a lot with when both the scenes were born. Both hiphop and snowboarding came about in the 70’s, and they sort of became this subculture that went together hand in hand. I started snowboarding in the 80’s – the hiphop culture was there, the music, MTV, snowboarding as being kind of an outsider and not being allowed as a sport in the mountains, it made it collide from the roots.”

What can we expect from the collection? Is it both for the slopes and every day wear?

”Yes. Every piece is hyper-technical, which means that 80% of the collection can be worn and perform in the snow, but the look and feel, the silhuettes, it’s really urban in style. This means that you’re gonna have an amazing time on the mountain, but you’re gonna look d*mn good in the city on an afternoon aswell.”

If someone is brand new with snowboarding – whats the first items of gear you would recommend to get?

”Get a good snowboard, haha! I feel that if you feel comfortable with your boot, binding and board, you’re gonna have a good time.”

Diversity and equity in snowboarding is something very important to Burton – tell us more about that.

”We have the Chill Foundation since 25 years back, and thats all about bringing as many kids from minorities as possible to the mountains, and give them the best experience on the snowboard, surfboard or skateboard. When you’re a big group of people snowboarding, it’s really much more than a sport. It’s being part of something. You kind of feel like a rocker gang!”
