Drake drar tillbaka sina Grammy-nomineringar
Har varit kritiskt till galan tidigare
Idag rapporterade Vareity att Drake valt att dra tillbaka alla sina Grammy-nomineringar för 2022. Det bekräftas av en representant från The Recording Academy. Dock har varken Drake själv eller hans team kommenterat varför de tog beslutet.
I år stod Drake nominerad i kategorierna Best Rap Album för Certified Lover Boy samt Best Rap Performance för “Way 2 Sexy” med Future och Young Thug.
Det finns många spekulationer kring varför Drake valt att dra tillbaka sina nomineringar. En del tror att det kan ha påverkats av att han förekommer i en rättegång efter AstroWorld Festival med Travis Scott förra månaden då 10 personer dog. Dock verkar det inte jättetroligt då han redan på torsdag ska framträda under Kanye West’s Free Larry Hoover-konsert.
Drake har dessutom alltid haft en komplicerad relation till Grammys. Efter att The Weeknd lämnades helt utan nomineringar förra året sa Drake att priset borde ersättas med: “something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the new generations to come”. På sin story skrev han även:
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exist now and the ones that come after. It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up overtime and pass on to the generations to come.”
Under sitt Grammy-tal 2019 när “God’s Plan” vann Best Rap Song kritiserade han även galan:
“We play an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport. You already won if you have people singing your songs word for word, if they’re singing in your hometown. You’re already winning, you don’t need this right here.”
